GENERAL ASSEMBLY PRESIDENT TO TRAVEL TO BANGLADESH AND PAKISTAN
United Nations, New York, 18 May 2021 – The President of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Volkan Bozkır, will travel to Bangladesh and Pakistan, from 25 to 27 May.
In Dhaka, the President will be received by H.E. Ms. Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, and meet bilaterally with H.E. Mr. AK Abdul Momen, Minister of Foreign Affairs. The President will also deliver remarks to the Foreign Services Academy. His statement will address the current international context – with a focus on global crises and emergencies – and reflect on the state of multilateralism and the United Nations system. The President will also meet with the United Nations Country Team.
While in Bangladesh, the President will also travel to Cox’s Bazar to meet with Rohingya refugees. He will be briefed on and observe the vital work undertaken by UN Resident Coordinator and the UNHCR Representative.
In Islamabad, the President is expected to be received by H.E. Mr. Arif Alvi, President of Pakistan, and H.E. Mr. Imran Khan, Prime Minister of Pakistan. The President will hold bilateral talks with H.E. Mr. Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Minister of Foreign Affairs on issues on the agenda of the United Nations General Assembly. The President will deliver remarks at the National Defence University. His statement will focus on multilateralism, and the present-day challenges which require urgent multilateral action. President Bozkır will also interact with the United Nations Country Team.
